Some events, but also certain obligations or problems can cause you tension. No problem if it is short term, but if you experience too much or too long tension, you can become overstrained. Overexertion is often the last phase to a burnout. So it is certainly useful to know the symptoms so that you can intervene in time.
Tension complaints
All kinds of stress complaints can arise when overworked. They do not all have to occur at the same time, but be attentive when you notice the following things to yourself:
- Tired and listless
- Sleeping problems
- Irritable (quickly angry or irritated)
- Sensitive to stimuli such as crowds or noise
- Suddenly starting to cry
- Worrying constantly
- Concentration or memory problems
No more grip on your life
In general, you feel like you have lost control of your life. You can no longer cope with certain things, such as at home or at work, and therefore feel very powerless. Carrying out your daily activities really becomes a task.
Physical complaints
Prolonged overexertion can also cause physical complaints. In addition to fatigue, headaches, dizziness and palpitations are common complaints. Although these things can also be physical signs of overexertion:
- Chest pain
- Stomach complaints or abdominal pain
- Pressure on the chest
- Rapid breathing or hyperventilation
- Limited visibility
- Oorsuizen
- Neck and shoulder pain
What should I do?
Do you think you're overworked? Then don't wait too long to take action. In order to recover, you will first have to accept that you are overworked. Take your complaints seriously, even if you may find it difficult, and provide enough rest. For some people it will be sufficient to stop some activities, others have to stop working altogether.
Then try to order your thoughts. Which situations exactly give you tension? And how can you prevent or solve such situations? In addition, you may have to look for other ways to deal with tension. Think of yoga, relaxation exercises or a new hobby (sport).
Also take good care of your body. For example, continue to provide enough rest and relaxation, but also eat healthily and make up for certain deficiencies with (natural) supplements.
